Performance Apprentice

The Civilians, the Off Broadway artist-driven company that produced GONE MISSING (Barrow Street), PARIS COMMUNE (PublicLAB), and THIS BEAUTIFUL CITY (Humana, Studio Theatre, Center Theatre Group, Vineyard Theatre) is currently accepting applications for performance apprentices  for its next project "Brooklyn at Eye Level."

Apprentices will facilitate and participate in The Civilians unique investigative process for "Booklyn at Eye Level".  Led by artistic director Steven Cosson, a culturally diverse group of professional actors, designers, and apprentices will immerse themselves in the neighborhoods adjacent to Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn. They will conduct interviews, participate in community life, observe public space, residences and business, and gain an intimate understanding of what makes up this part of the city.  This in-depth, long-term investigation will feed a laboratory comprised of artists, students and urban planners. The laboratory will ultimately produce a number of short format creative works, a series of performances and dialogue events in non-traditional settings, and the creation of an original work of theater for later production at major venues in NY and beyond.

Apprentices should be current students or recent graduates of a university program and their studies/interests/skills should be performance-based.

Applicants must be available at least 20hrs/week during the months of October and November 2008.
