A CARNEGIE MELLON DRAMA ALUMNI IN NEED OF HELP
I am a 2007 Carnegie Mellon School of Drama Alumni and I am in need of some help.
I currently live in Los Angeles, California where I have been working as a theater actor. I fly back and forth to New York a lot for work as well. Ever since I graduated, I have been attached to a new play that has been in development for over four years. I have flown back to New York to do numerous readings for producers and theaters, hoping to get an off-broadway run.
Just recently I was made aware that the play will be getting its first showcase run in New York City this summer under the direction of Austin Pendleton and they have asked me to play the lead. The ensemble will be made up of New York City theater veterans/Tony Award winners and will rehearse the month of July and run the month of August for producers, directors, and theatres. It is an excellent opportunity for an actor to work with such an experienced director and cast as well as gaining wide exposure in the New York theater community.
However, because it is a "showcase," there is no pay provided and no lodging. I can get by on the little money I have saved, but I desperately need to find some type of housing arrangement.I wanted to contact the NYDAC for any help that they could provide. Unfortunately, I am on a tight budget due to the necessity of having to pay my rent/bills in Los Angeles while in New York so subletting is a last resort.
My ideal situation is to find a few places where I can "hop" around on a couch or a floor for a week or two here and there. Or maybe find a few people that need someone to house sit while they go out of town for summer vacation. I am willing to pay for my stay any way I can, be it through chores or taking care of pets. Like I said, I really just need a place to sleep at the end of the night.
IF ANYONE IS GOING AWAY FOR THE SUMMER AND NEEDS SOMEONE TO TAKE CARE OF THE CAT OR WATCH THE APARTMENT OR EVEN HAS A COUCH THEY WOULDNT MIND LETTING A STRUGGLING ACTOR SLEEP ON FOR A FEW DAYS, IT WOULD BE EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
This is an amazing opportuntiy and I have to do everything possible to make it work.
Thank you so much for your time and help!
